Forum: classic_tv Subject: Re: Reviews of Reviews? Reviews of Reviewers?

The fact is this sight is barely moderated and nothing is reviewed prior to going live like more moderated sights which is double edged sword.People who disagreed with me or one of my assoicates politically would post reviews that clearly indicated to me that they never listened to the item at all and simply wanted to discredit the work. They failed to realize that was part of our guerilla marketing plan and put the item up on the front page, driving up downloads. Some people can't even take contructive criticism though. A review should point out the pro or con and give an reason or solution. Saying "you are an asshole" does nothing to inform others of the content , it's just petty human vindictive and adolescant behavior.

There are people out there who cannot stand the fact that someone might not agree with them. Myself and others that used to post here used to take reviews personally, especially when the person says something like "this sucks" or "you suck" or whatever just to get a reaction. That in turn causes backlash and then the review section becomes a flame war battlefield eventually leading people to follow each other's reviews around and give opposite ratings to the other person. It happens all the time on youtube also. Piss someone off and you wake up with 1 star ratings on your videos regardless of the quality or artistic significance they may reflect.

People suck, but when you can hide behind a keyboard in the mother's basement and run their mouth without the risk of getting a clenched fist bening inserted into said mouth they become bolder than ever. I have even fed into this silly game on occasion and some of my former netlabel regulars who have moved on to facebook and twitter or whereever they went, have gone overboard of various reasons ranging from guerilla marketing attempts to personal cyber fights with anonymous multi posting trolls.

The fact that you have multiple logins is problematic, or at least it used to be. I think you are harmless for the most part but I think you are taking this place way to seriously (like I used to a few years ago). People for the most part are stupid, naive and malleable and have been quick to idolize, worship and follow cults of personality since age immemorial. To expect unsupervised children to not sneak into a closet or play with matches is setting yourself up for disappointment and frustration.

The people on here (including myself at times) are nothing but big overgrown kids who think they are right and others are wrong. Some even go so far as get into ideologies in which they think dissenting voices should be silenced and even killed. That is what makes free speech so sacred and a big target of every tyrant, dictator and socilist regime. Even in the US, the birth place of free speech, attacks on free speech are selectively targeted in the name of political correctness, diversity and multiculturalism which is like the pot calling the kettle black.. see? Now I am hitler.

It took me about 15 years to unlearn the stuff from the first 15 years.

My grammar and spelling are horrendous in that post too... I am imbareassed.

Grammar and spelling aside, the messege comes through. I've done some of what you mentioned as the reviews go. I've reviewed some of the more obviously copyrighted matierial in open source recently just for the purpose of attacking the intelligence and character of the uploader. In these reviews I've frequently used the words "moron" and "idiot" to get my point accross. Part of me feels this was justified anger, but another part is a little embarrassed for stooping to name-calling. Fortunately, these files have been since taken down so you can't read these tirades anymore. Nobody's perfect.

Your reviews I can handle...It is when somebody posts a review of an item (say, a Jam Handy film, a DuMont show, a silent film, a coronet film, and other old usually-PD stuff) and instead of reviewing the item, they instead review either another persons review, or post a long political tirad (wrong spelling?) on a film about the most mundane of subjects (such as a Tooth Paste commercial, and until I found this site back in 2006(4), I wasn't even aware Colgate and Pepsodent could be used to start a political debate). Reviews that leave trivia or casting notes are OK with me...Sometimes they can provide context.

Well welcome to the world of instant gratification and unlimited access to the internet for any idiot with a library card.

I was the only kid on my block with a computer back in the late 1970's, now anyone can have a myspace page, a youtube acount and and anonymous login to say whatever they want. It's a side effect of the advance in technology.

You are the last person I would ever call an "idiot" or a "moron". I just downloaded most of the stuff you put up and I thank you for it!

Speaking as someone who is hiding behind a keyboard in his mother's uterus, I fully concur and disagree with everything posted above - and much that is not.

Hanes makes you feel good all under.
